Motion Analysis: TMA

Motion Analysis

The study of movement, in different qualitative and quantitative aspects, assumes a fundamental importance either in evaluation phase or in the management of movement reeducation. Neurological pathologies, like orthopedic ones, present peculiar patterns of movement, important for recognizing, evaluating, monitoring, improving, in order to guarantee an efficient rehabilitation program, calibrated in its objectives. Today, all it’s allowed thanks to Tecnobody Motion Analysis system (TMA). Thanks to a modular network of inertial systems (9 DOF: gyros, accelerometers and magnetometers), TMA guarantees in the same time speed and ease of use, a dedicated software with a simple access for the therapist and specific multitask applications for the evaluation and treatment of movement dysfunctions in every diverse clinical presentations.

Inertial sensor

TMA consists of inertial sensors , each comprising three gyroscopes, three magnetometers and three accelerometers. These allow the real-time reconstruction of the inclinations, movements and accelerations made by the limbs of the human body.

Bluetooth Connectivity

TMA eliminates the wired connections to make way for wireless connectivity, using the Bluetooth standard. Taking advantage of Bluetooth technology in Class 1, you can record the test at a radius of 50 meters in open field .

Modular system

The TecnoBody motion analysis system is designed to be modular . Three colors , three modules to distinguish clearly and unequivocally the three fundamental parts of our body : upper limbs , trunk and lower limbs. Respectively: orange module, green module and blue module. The modularity of the system allows the operator to evaluate and rehabilitate only the anatomical and functional area of your interest and then better focus the patient's attention .

Gate Analysis

One of the main modules of the TMA system is Gait Analysis . The test procedure is extremely easy and fast thanks to the sophisticated data processing mathematics. After the test the software provides the operator with the classic Space-Time analysis , comparable with the data provided from the classical camera systems.

Virtual reality

The huge potentiality of the TecnoBody movement analysis is in the occupational therapy . This means that thanks to this new technology it is possible to reconstruct virtual environments or augmented reality in which the patient can be dipped for a dynamic and interactive rehabilitative training. This operating mode represents the future of classical occupational therapy .

Connectivity of MJS system

Particularly innovative and revolutionary is the application of inertial sensors in the systems of Multi Joint System for evaluation-rehabilitation of shoulder. The inertial sensors allow you to greatly expand the versatility of the MJS system, allowing the operator to accurately and precisely follow the patient into the three basic stages of shoulder rehabilitation: assisted, neutral, load.

TecnoBody Motion analysis (TMA) consist of a network of wireless inertial sensors (IMU) attached to the patient.
This new technology can present a completely free movement without the use of a camera. The inertial sensors with the accelerometers, gyros and earth’s magnetic field sensors permit a real time detection of all the angular movements inside the biomechanical bodies.

The TMA software allows simultaneous anatomical visualization in three-dimensional mode extremely useful for both the operator and the patient. The TMA system integrates the classic motion analysis , detailed and precise , with virtual reality , crucial in the rehabilitation phase for the patient's immersion. The software is fully configurable and allows , for example , to view the movement of a limb and the relative compensation of the trunk in case of obvious functional deficits.

In this module you can detect the angles , speeds and accelerations transmitted from all the sensors ( IMU ) connected in real-time . The software deal with the data processing and make them visible in the dedicated graphics . Moreover , it is able to detect the pressure of the hand using the appropriate sensor connected to the system . Finally there is the replay function that enables the analysis of each recording.

Gait analysis

In this module, you can perform a precise analysis of the pass. Eventually the software will show some results : - Gantt Chart step -average step length - stride length - walking speed - swing percentage, positioning, double support, etc ... - Comparison with normative values - Charts of all movements of the legs and trunk

The Occupational Therapy Modules

The motion analysis software is supplied with a comprehensive package of occupational therapy. Through these modules the patient can exploit the potentiality of training in a virtual environment by playing safe movements and actions of daily life .
The occupational therapy software controls the kinetic capabilities in a simple but progressive way . The feedback provided by the occupational therapy software encourages and motivates patients to get a greater number of repetitions , this leads to better results , faster and with better outcomes in the long term .
Using a range of functional and motivational exercises and games that simulate regular daily activities , the software provides the patient an additional feedback through :
- Repetitive tasks that are motivating and rewarding
- Functional exercises with immediate feedback on performance
- Levels of difficulty which are adjustable in relation to the patient's needs and progress
- Adjustable Workspace in according to changing patient capacity.
